HISTORY
THE TIME SYSTEM
The time system will allow you to better understand the sequence of events here on Vamazia, as well as see how old your fellow birds are.
AGING
To keep things simple, the same aging system will be applied to all birds. In reality some birds live for a few years and some live past fifty, but that would make things too complicated.

More information on raising chicks can be found on the hatches page.

PRE-HATCHING
Pregnancy: lasts 1/3rd of a season (1 realtime month)
Incubation: lasts 1/3rd of a season (1 realtime month)
IMMATURE
Hatchling: lasts 1 season (3 realtime months)
Hatchlings must remain in the nest and require parental care.
Fledgling: lasts 1 season (3 realtime months)
Fledged birds are capable of flight. Now able to leave the nest, however, still dependent on parents and not fully mature.
ADULT
Mature: after fledgling stage is over, lasts 6 years (3 realtime years)
Capable of mating and laying eggs.
Elder: after 7 years total age until death
Elder birds are quite old and frail.
Death: around 10 years of age (5 realtime years)
Bird is now vulnerable to random chance event of old age death.
SEASONS
The time system used in roleplay is double time. That means for every year that passes in real time, two years pass in the roleplay. This allows plots to move a little quicker.

There aren't typical seasons on Vamazia, since it is tropical. Warm all year round, there are two basic seasons: wet and dry.

WET SEASON: Lots and lots of rain. (Up to a foot of rain.) Many rainstorms, floods.
DRY SEASON: Not as much rain. (Up to half a foot of rain.) Waterline recedes, some areas may become accessible.

The following shows what months correlate to what seasons from real time to IC time.

JANUARY - WET SEASON
FEBRUARY - WET SEASON
MARCH - WET SEASON

APRIL - DRY SEASON
MAY - DRY SEASON
JUNE - DRY SEASON

end of one IC year!

JULY - WET SEASON
AUGUST - WET SEASON
SEPTEMBER - WET SEASON

OCTOBER - DRY SEASON
NOVEMBER - DRY SEASON
DECEMBER - DRY SEASON

end of one IC year!
Years are denoted as Y0, Y1, and so on. The first year of roleplay is Y0.
HATCHDAYS
Where all this season and year denotation stuff comes into play is for hatchdays!

Hatchdays, birthdays, allow you to know when a character was born so you can have an age listed on the profile without having to constantly update when they age a year and so on.

For the sake of further simplicity, hatchdays are by SEASON and YEAR. The character will age a year whenever it turns to that season.

If you want a character that has a few years on its wing, you will have to denote the year with a negative number. The year system works like a number line, so a character hatched two years before Y0 (the start of roleplay), the character would be born in -Y2. So if the character was hatched in the rainy season, their hatchday would be WET SEASON, -Y2.
It's quite simple, really.
